Built in 1977, it has a very clean look which gives it a fragile appearance, but it is a heavy device, the build quality is very good, typical of Yamaha. The RP-1 would not be wise, lots of complaints about "wow" or speed instability.

I have an oppurtunity to buy a Yamaha YP-D6 turntable I don't think the Pioneer TT's would be an upgrade, but also fine turntables on par with the Yamaha
